Integrating Articial Intelligence into Early Childhood Care Curriculum in Nigeria: Benets and Challenges

Abstract
Articial Intelligence (AI) holds signicant promise in revolutionizing education, including early childhood
care. AI can analyse students' learning styles, preferences, and performance data to tailor learning experiences
to individual needs. However, its integration into the Nigerian curriculum for early childhood care presents
numerous challenges. This study explores these challenges and their implications. The primary obstacle lies in
the lack of infrastructure and resources necessary for implementing AI-driven educational tools and
methodologies. Nigeria faces disparities in access to technology and internet connectivity, particularly in rural
areas where early childhood care centres are often located. Additionally, there is a shortage of trained educators
equipped to leverage AI effectively in teaching and nurturing young children. Cultural and societal factors also
inuence the adoption of AI in early childhood care. Traditional pedagogical approaches may conict with the
introduction of AI-based learning tools, leading to resistance from parents, educators, and policymakers.
Concerns about privacy, data security, and the ethical use of AI further complicate its integration into the
curriculum. Furthermore, there is a gap in research and evidence-based practices regarding the efcacy of AI in
early childhood education specic to the Nigerian context. Limited studies exist to guide policymakers and
educators in implementing AI responsibly and ensuring its alignment with cultural norms and educational
goals. Addressing these challenges requires a multifaceted approach. Investments in infrastructure, teacher
training programs, and research initiatives are essential to build the necessary foundation for AI integration.
Collaboration between government agencies, educational institutions, and technology developers can facilitate
the development of culturally relevant AI solutions tailored to the needs of Nigerian early childhood care
settings.
